A hoodie I brought to summer camp in 1994. It’s pretty beat up at this point so I mostly wear it around the house, but it’s so nice and warm that I can’t get rid of it.
Oldest in the sense of “owned for the longest amount of time”: a pair of jeans I got as a teenager whose pockets are literally rectangles of denim sewn onto the outside of the legs. Not the most stylish, but it was finally a pair of pants that I could actually use the pockets for storing things like phone, wallet, mp3 player without them digging into my hip whenever I take a step.
Started off as everyday wear, then shifted to being “work” clothes (as in manual labor) and horse riding pants once they became tattered enough - especially the heels.
Oldest in terms of “year manufactured”: it’s a tossup between some of my dad’s t shirts from the 80s that I use as pyjamas, and a woolen sweater my grandmother knitted before I was born.
Whoops, didn’t see that this was in c/women’s stuff. I don’t identify as a guy most of the time, but I don’t necessarily identify as a woman either and so it doesn’t really feel right to comment or post here unless someone explicitly invites me to.
I like to hang out here cause y’all have discussions that I don’t really hear or see elsewhere and I also feel like it helps diminish my own blind spots. It’s a welcome respite from the “man is default” tone of the rest of the web.
I can delete my root / the parent comment if it bothers anyone, and/or this one as well.
A silk scarf given to me when I was 16. (I’m 59.)
It is… bras! I only buy freya bras cos they fit me and wear well. When they wear out I have them as sleeping bras, so I’ve got some that are 15 years old
Jumper i’ve had since i was 17 (i’m 47) Belonged to my mother before that.
Also my snorkeling pouch i’ve had since i was 10, not sure if that counts though.
I’ve donated nearly everything five years ago on account of transitioning, but I kept two pairs of comfy fleece pajama and my old ski jacket from 2009 because they don’t make the same patternwork these days, the type where it’s asymetrical vertical and horizontal stripes. It’s outdated but I love that style.
I do have a lot of vintage clothes, since nearly all slow fashion brands stopped offering tall sizes years ago, and those are up to 35 years old. But I haven’t owned them for that long.
In 1996 I was given a second-hand '80s leather motorbike jacket by one of my Dad’s friends. He didn’t want it because at that time it had fallen out of fashion, and I was just riding in normal coats which is super dangerous.
I still wear it lots, and it’s got a lot of patina and retro-charm now, lol
My car coat! Was demoted from primary duties long ago and now lives in the boot for emergencies (which happen surprisingly often, thanks british ‘summer’ weather).
Oh and my converse I bought about 20 years ago and never wore then rediscovered a couple of years ago.
One of those colorful windbreakers from the 80s. If you mean clothing that I was the first owner of, a hoodie that’s about 15 years old.
A cord summer jacket. It was already old when I got it 2nd hand and I’ve been wearing it for 10 years by now.
