  • A friend of mine works as a chef in a big restaurant that serves mainly tourists that are often drunk, rude and sometimes aggressive. He works in a hot, loud and greasy athmosphere, has to stand all day, work on weekends, public holidays, often until late in the evening. I work in a clean and comfortable office or even from home, am pretty flexible with my working hours, have more vacation days and still make significantly more money than him. And he’s already getting way above minimum wage. There are so many people in Germany who aren’t even close to what he makes and who work under conditions even worse than that, like seasonal workers for fruit picking, construction workers, care workers etc.

I think also IT workers should stand up for themselves and demand improvements where things are going in a wrong direction. Still I’d say us IT folks (with probably very few exceptions) shouldn’t be the ones complaining in the front row.

  • At home I use a couple of Harman Kardon Onyx speakers. You can couple two of them to have an even better surround experience but already one of them sounds better than the sound systems I experienced in VW, Hyundai, Ford, Tesla and Smart during the last couple of years. It may look a bit ugly to have bluetooth speakers laying around with charging cables etc. but sound-wise I’d see absolutely no problem.

In general, I doubt that the majority of car buyers have significant audiophile requirements. Of course, most of them want to listen to music or audiobooks but a ‘good enough’ solution should be fine for most if it saves you hundreds or thousands of bucks.

  • It used to be thought that fiber type was what you were born with, but we show that’s not the case – training has a huge influence.

Genders/sexes aside, I don’t see how their study proves this point. If I understand it correctly, they only looked at 12 world-class athletes. As far as I know, genetic preconditions play a major role in becoming world-class in more or less any sport. So if you’re looking at the very best athletes of the planet, chances are high, you’re also looking at people with the best (or at least very good) genetics.

Getting a world-class weight lifter, marathon runner, basketball player etc. is not achievable with the right training and food only.
