Canada@lemmy.ca•Tucker Carlson’s Canada Invasion Rhetoric and the MAGA Fracture
49·3 days agoYeah, he’s been on this anti-Canada kick since near the end of his Fox News career. Word was, he’d made a “movie” for airing on Fox News that urged an invasion because Trudeau was a communist. The sooner this propagandist is relegated to the wastebin of history, the better

10·4 days agoYes, because enough is never enough for corporations. No matter how many tax breaks, rewritten laws, and repealed regulations, they will not and can not be satisfied.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Whats the worst book anyone has ever recommended you?
2·12 days agoIt’s like, the opposite of “fun”. Especially as the series continues, it just gets more and more bleak. 2 out of 10, I’ll certainly never read them again.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Whats the worst book anyone has ever recommended you?
1·12 days agoYeah, these two were such a step down from Hyperion and Fall of Hyperion.
I was wondering this also; but I’d bet it’s probably a No given the whole “don’t cause harm” proscription, in light of how pregnancy can cause harm and isn’t a sure thing.

14·13 days agoYour title doesn’t match your body, and that’s one of the reasons it reeks of advertising. You asked a question, then didn’t answer it or even attempt to. Please try to do better if you’re going to be a member of this community.

2·18 days agoI read it as a teenager and wasn’t particularly impressed. As an adult I reread it after hearing it was a “classic” and I couldn’t even make it halfway through. Absolutely agree that liking that book is a red flag

8·19 days ago“Grok” was briefly a real(ish) word back in the 60’s, after Robert Heinlein’s Stranger in a Strange Land first came out. It faded into obscurity over the last few decades until Elon ressurected it, and now writers are unironically utilizing it again for some reason.

Books@lemmy.world•What book(s) are you currently reading or listening to? November 18
3·22 days agoAlmost halfway through, and it’s a bit of a rambling mess. You can really tell that it was originally published in serial form a few chapters at a time; and the sheer volume of extra characters & their subplots is ridiculous.
I am enjoying it, but The Count has too much plot armour, he knows everything all the time practically supernaturally.

10·26 days agoOh boy, war profiteering, can’t wait.

Started Book 1 of Philip Pullman’s The Book of Dust, “La Belle Sauvage”. It’s good so far, easy read. If it’s good enough I’ll do the whole trilogy now that Book 3 is finally out, I’ve been waiting to start book 1 for over 5 years since I found the hardcover at a secondhand bookstore for $8
