Hyperion by Dan Simmons. A very imaginative book. Which could be considered a backhanded compliment. I dont think he always gets it right but on the balance it’s an engaging read. Best of all its a trilogy so more books to go. Hopefully the quality keeps up.

Flip-flopping on states rights is conservative bread and butter. When conservatives control the federal government there is no such thing as state rights and when they don’t it’s federal overreach. I’m a little confused. Lots of words before it seems like she was pulled over because she didn’t get out of the way of the police when they put their sirens on. Impossible to know whether she made a mistake or not. Still probably a massive overreaction by the police. Obviously traumatic for the young woman but her narrative seems melodramatic. The older I get the more I favor unions because they seem to support the idea of seniority. My sample size of myself has had 1 drive fail in decades. It was a solid state drive. Thankfully it failed in a strangely intermittent way and I was able to recover the data. But still, it surprised me as one would assume solid state would be more reliable. That spinning rust has proven to be very reliable. But regardless I’m sure SSD will be/are better in every way.

You got the right idea I think. The boats are all smooshed together in a Marina so it’s natural for people to overestimate the number of boats relative to the number of people. There are way way way more people then there are boats. Honestly that’s the appeal of boats, the ability to go somewhere there aren’t a lot of people because most people don’t own boats.

My LG microwave suffered a major malfunction and broke the magnetron. I replace it but the humidity sensor apparently broke also so my popcorn button and with other features dependant on that sensor don’t work.

Just another example of the enshitification of consumer products. Now I have to cook my popcorn like a savage. I don’t know how many bags of popcorn I ruined because my attention span is shorter than the 1-2 seconds between pops.

How does a video of Haitian immigrants voting illegally versus legally look different? Are they wearing signs or maybe one of those “Hi! My name is…” stickers with “Illegally Voting Haitian Immigrant” written in? Or maybe it’s just obvious because they present passports written on the back of cereal boxes and the election worker is giving big comic winks and saying “sign here US citizen legally allowed to vote.” I guess it doesn’t matter what the video shows. It’s probably some Bigfoot jerky video with garbled audio with a caption saying “Haitian immigrants voting illegally.”
