Growing up I was made to feel weird for not being cut.

Turns out every girl I’ve dated / been with doesn’t care (except one, but she was toxic in every single way possible).

So I guess it wasn’t as big of a deal as I was led to believe.

I kind of prefer men uncut, but that’s not like something that factors in when picking a partner.

I was the same. My father and brothers cut, not me. Nobody to teach me how to use it, take care of it, etc. In the end, I got cut because I had a problem with continual yeast infections. I far prefer it cut compared to uncut.

My oldest had to have one for medical reasons. He had the option of attempting to deal with it without surgery but decided he didn’t want to deal with that.

Doing that to a baby for no good reason is despicable and I hate forever the 19th century prudes that decided it would be a good way to keep teenage boys from choking the chicken.

Yeah, I wish he didn’t have to suffer through the recovery. The poor boy was miserable from the soreness. Still says the surgery was worth not having to do the other stuff so no complaints from me.

I thought this would be the case for me, but when we decided not to for our son, only one person we knew agreed with it. The crazy part is most people would start by saying something along the lines of “ooh it’s a boy, how’s it going down there?” Like they feel bad about it. But when I tell them we didn’t suddenly its all about hygiene and aesthetics.

Also surprised at how many people asked about it…

The hygiene thing is a myth. Yeah it can get dirty if you ignore cleaning it but no more so than any other body part. It’s basically entirely a post-hoc rationalization from people who had it done to them when they were babies and weren’t told it was because way back when some Puritan dipshits thought it might keep teenage boys from “being sinful” in their youth.

My cousin-in-law died of an infection picked up from a medically unnecessary circumcision procedure.

Before having a boy I was leaning towards preferring not to circumcise purely because it seems wild to take a new born baby that basically can’t take any medications and is so vulnerable for the first few weeks, but we will do a cosmetic surgery. Then I started learning more about the surgery and the effects and risks and it became a “hell no!”

The hygiene thing is so bizarre, it’s not hard to peel the thing while showering for like 3 seconds. Boys peel the thing very regularly anyway…

I’m not cut, and same with my son. Why do people ask so much I will never know. I think the third (or fourth I can’t remember) time I was asked I responded with “My parents were kind enough to not mutilate me, why would I mutilate him?”

Then I responded with “Well, I’m not” after that. Seemed to be an effective way to jolt them into rethinking it.

As EmptySlime says, people ask because they have an irrational belief that must be socially normalized via basically peer pressure, otherwise they’d have to confront their cognitive dissonance and realize that they are mistaken and needlessly cruel.

Its basically the same dynamic as children bullying poor kids that can’t afford whatever the ‘cool’ clothes or shoes are, the same dynamic as many (not all, but many) religious people being literally unable to conceive of a person being able to be a generally morally good person without believing in a God as the source of that morality.

Its an irrational worldview that is logically unstable if interrogated, thus it must be reinforced via pressured social norms.

I am laughing thinking in the bottom it is clean and then slowly becoming uncut on top. So basically a little tongue like flap on top of the head

    Ya about that.

My fucking doctor must of been drunk (it was the 50’s, need I say more?) Botched completely. Did not notice until 15. Way too late to blame or sue. Oh well.
