As I noted in yesterday’s strip, Binkley’s father is Frank here, but the Wikipedia article lists his name as Tom. This could be on reason why this story line appears in none of the books.
Tom Binkley, Binkley’s father, usually distraught over his son’s behavior, his own divorce or mid-life crisis.

Breathed makes many retcons over the years to his characters. Sometimes a throw away becomes popular and they need a better story. Or it is simply possible he forgot the character’s name.
