Careful, that looks like Siberian Squill, somewhat toxic to animals and fairly invasive.

zifk@sh.itjust.worksto Dull Men's Club@lemmy.world•My local hardware store has recently changed the colour of the plating on their screws from zinc to something more golden16·5 months agoFor the longest time I thought pressure-treated wood meant it was treated with pressure. Only just crossed my mind that it means they use pressure to get the treatment chemicals further in the wood.
zifk@sh.itjust.worksto Privacy@lemmy.ml•DeepSeek collects keystroke data and more, storing it in Chinese servers73·5 months agoAnnoyingly, some of the censorship is baked into the model, it still won’t answer all question about china.
I can’t explain why but I find this really house of leaves coded
zifk@sh.itjust.worksto Not The Onion@lemmy.world•Grapes double sensor magnetic power in an epic quantum breakthroughEnglish1211·6 months agoLmao yes technically correct. The grapes aren’t doing anything new, they’re acting as a microwave resonator which makes some very interesting plasma physics you can do with a grape in the microwave. However, this is not a new phenomenon and there are much more convenient microwave resonators you can build out of metal.
Enjoy your stable systems while you can! Learning comes through solving problems as they come up. It’s a good sign if you don’t have to.
Need some new functionality? Figure out how to set it up. Encounter a bug or issue? Troubleshoot and fix it. Functionality that you want doesn’t exist? Time to program it yourself.
You can also start customizing (ricing) your system as you wish. Take a look at unixporn style communities for inspiration and advice.
that’s not how addition works
I can’t say I’m ever particularly aware of my gender when I’m dreaming
zifk@sh.itjust.worksto Data is Beautiful@mander.xyz•City street network orientationEnglish21·1 year agoFun thing is that in Montreal, ‘North’ is refereed to as the direction where streets go away from the river, which ends up being the WNW, further from north than “East”.
Ah of course, the bog blog log
maaaan I really wanted the Maryland flag to be official, but it was made by someone on /r/vexillology

As a visual learner I prefer the Finnster standard reference sample
English also has cases, we just don’t think of them much. It’s why pronouns are typically given as nominative/objective pairs: she/her, they/them, etc. So, similarly in German you’d probably only need to give one or two examples to make it clear which set to use. Or give all four.
ah nice, ads disguised as memes
zifk@sh.itjust.worksto Games@sh.itjust.works•Stardew Valley is basically the same game 8 years laterEnglish33·1 year agoTitle now shows as “In 8 years, Stardew Valley never lost sight of its core philosophy” for me.
+1 For KeepassXC, I use it in combination with syncthing to have my passwords available on all devices.
zifk@sh.itjust.worksto Canada@lemmy.ca•Canada needs a digital infrastructure that isn't beholden to private interests24·2 years agoI’m always amazed about the lack of conversation around nationalizing telecom. We have sasktel as a great example of how it can work, and hydroquebec as a great historical representation of the benefits of publicizing infrastructure. Seems about time to start recognizing internet as a necessary utility that the government directly provides to the people.
zifk@sh.itjust.workstoworldnews@sh.itjust.works•Japan to release Fukushima water into ocean starting Aug 24English71·2 years agoActually we both screwed up by a factor of 1000, the article states 190 becquerels of tritium per litre, not cubic meter.
Seems like you have the right order of magnitude, butthe sources I’ve seen gives the ocean close to 0.5-2 TU, or “Tritium Units” which correspond to 180 Bq/m^3.So I wouldn’t call the water being released as cleaner, just basically on average with the ocean already.https://www.ldeo.columbia.edu/res/fac/etg.tmp/text/woce_method.html https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0048969718348034
Awesome! Glad you’re aware. It’s slowly taking over my neighborhood and I have a young puppy who loves to chew now so I’ve been overly vigilant.
