Technology@beehaw.org•Meta's upcoming AcitivityPub-enabled app Threads will only come with an "import from Mastodon" option. The new network won't federate on day one.English
5·2 years agoCertainly, but when you make a comment or post it gets transferred to all federated servers without your express consent and you currently can’t permanently delete anything.

15·2 years agoBy that logic though all of Fediverse is illegal and should be shut down. There is significant work to be done there, not just by Facebook but by the Fediverse community on the whole.

Programming@beehaw.org•I am working on a new lemmy app for iOS and Android, here's my current progressEnglish
1·2 years agoBrilliant, very much look forward to it. I don’t have much experience with mobile app development but could contribute some translations if you end up needing them.
Or as we say in the industry, a bicorn (note that there is currently no industry that refers to them as bicorns)

Technology@beehaw.org•Mastodon thinks Lemmy’s privacy stinks. What say you?English
1·2 years agoThe originating instance definitely cannot be held responsible for failing to force a separate instance in another country to delete its cached copy of user data imo. I think what is more likely is that EU courts could force European Jimmy instances to only federate with GDPR-compliant instances.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Subscribed after today's headlines about Reddit's mods for this sub being booted.English
1·2 years agoAs did I. Was sort of okay with third party apps being blocked, but the whole mod replacement thing is unfortunate and has caused my favourite subreddits to go down pretty much indefinitely.

Yeah, after reading that I think the defederation was a quite serious mistake on their part that will probably cause a lot of people to abandon their instance.
