  • Generic statements such as “X age is too old for anyone to be president” is the issue. Some people at 80 could be healthy and lucid enough to be president and some at 60 might not. Age is not a limiting factor equally for everyone, so such judging should be made individually for each person and not with a blank statement.

Not accountable to death is a complex topic, for the same reason that they won’t see the consequences of their ruling, they might also rule for more “pure” reasons and not to make friends in high places or pocket all they can to retire and live life. So I’m not sure that’s the negative point you seem to think it is.

The fact that someone is more likely to die soon shouldn’t be a reason to block them from doing something long term, or think they can’t provide a real positive effect.

What we do agree on is that the lack of younger representation in politics is indeed a worrying topic.

  • I don’t disagree on your last point, but age is a factor that I don’t think matters as much as you imply at first. In the sense that different people are affected in different ways. A good president or politician won’t be defined by their age. You know who is older than Biden? Sanders, and he might be one of the most lucid and seemingly good politicians all around (but I’m not in the USA so my understanding is limited, at least what I have heard of him is extremely positive).

That’s not to say that I’d rather have younger people involved in important roles in politics, there’s too many that should be completely retired, and Biden is one of them. But age is not the main issue.

  • Actually no, not technically, but I do get to use English most of the time. But that’s now in my late 30s, during my youth and childhood I would never use English really. The whole point is to give a counter experience to the fact that dreams are based on our upbringing. It’s based simply on whatever is in our minds.

  • In a month? No way, concentrate on one task for a whole month? Nah… I can do in one day what others do in a week, but after that day (sometimes it can be up to two) the dopamine is gone and I leave that for a couple weeks at least.

At home we wanted to remove an ugly wallpaper and paint the wall, which is behind a bookshelf that takes the whole length. In one weekend we put the books in boxes, took off the whole shelf down, and remove half the wallpaper off the wall. Then a couple of weeks passed until we finished removing the wallpaper. Then the whole thing stayed tore down for a few months. Then finally in another weekend we painted nearly the whole wall (but needed another layer). Then a few weeks passed until we added the last layer, built the bookshelf and then started painting the bookshelf.

Any way, long story short, it took like a whole year to fucking finish it.

My wife has even stronger ADHD so we make quite a fun couple :)

  • I’m glad to see others sharing the best way to eat a hotdog.

I found it on my own, had tortillas from making tacos, but run out of meat, so I checked what else I had, and there it was, a perfectly nice sausage. So I made myself a Mex dog and I loved it, much better than with buns and a lot less messy.

  • Dreaming in color or black and white is more of a personal aspect unrelated to TV and probably something that can change even for one person over time. And dreams are not only based on your youth, they are based on your life and your experiences and can include just about whatever. You can dream in different languages depending on what you are using most (many dreams I have are in English and I’m not a native speaker).

  • Yeah, I saw the comment in github but it felt too surreal and without looking at the patent I didn’t want to assume anything. But hey thanks for the link to the actual patent, I have had a look at it, and read some parts of it and I’m still kinda confused about the whole situation with this keyboard.

The patent was published 10 years ago. It says it is withdrawn but I don’t know if we can somehow see the reason or if it was voluntarily withdrawn.

The patent itself recognizes that the hexagonal keyboard alone lacks on innovation to warrant the patent so the author proposes together with that the “best” order for different languages.

Then the code in github seems to have been uploaded 6 months ago. Maybe they withdrew the patent until they can show an example?

But how often do devs working on some free software code go through the trouble of making patents? And the code appearing such a long time after the patent… I don’t know, I don’t like throwing accusations without proof but the whole thing feels like they are more interested in the patent than creating the keyboard but I can’t be certain of it.

And then we get to the whole ordeal of the key positions, changing over different languages, trying to choose the optimal positions… I don’t think that it is enough to be patented (but I’ve seen worse so…) and likely it won’t ever be something people can agree on. Creating such “best” order would be impossible and probably each person would have different ideas. Now, predicting the next most likely letter… That would be more interesting but it was done ages ago too. And the most important aspect of what makes us fast typing is not the order of the letters, but the fact that we have muscle memory to reach them once we are used to a layout. As I use three different languages daily, using the same keyboard layout for all, is the best option, but with this idea I would need to change the layout of the keyboard… It would make me so incredibly slow!

And more in detail with the patent, many claims are borderline ridiculous. But this comment is already long enough so I’ll leave it herewith my final criticism for the author. Forget the patent, and just create a good keyboard that people want to use.

Is it though? Nearly 10 years ago they were going to sell them in retail for 200$, now it is 225$, and its going to be so much better. My time steel lasted for so many years… And it was wonderful, I miss it so much. After the battery started to get too weak I started the search for an alternative, there’s so little offering what pebble offers. Ended up with a Garmin, which is… OK, but the price makes me nearly consider it not worth it, around two years ago it cost me 350€, and it was the cheapest version. It’s probably great for super sporty people, but I just want a basic watch that helps me get notified and check a bunch of things.

In my opinion what pebble offers is incredibly good for the price, specially compared with what there is in the market currently.
