Board Games@sopuli.xyz•Looking For a Simple, Short, Portable 2 Player gameEnglish
1·6 months agoWhat’s funny is I own this game already and it’s in my top three yet the strategy is so deep I hadn’t even considered this until now! Now that you mention it though it is light and takes up little space, the actions are practically displayed on the tiles, and despite not having perfect information you’d have enough information to deduce what the best move would be while still having enough randomness that an inexperienced player has the ability to make a “comeback”. This game just keeps getting better lol

1·6 months agoIdeally it wouldn’t require a large playing area, but I am open to all options as long as it’s portable.
Also, you have reminded me of Onitama which somehow didn’t come to mind while thinking of games to match my description. It seems to be the perfect game in terms of strategic content, since the randomization provides minimal edge to an experienced player but it maintains all the strategy and perfect information.
Fox in the Forest is definitely a good option, and I’m interested in Arboretum but from what I’ve gathered it can be a lot to take in at first. I have yet to play it but from videos it seems like the rules are quite simple but the scoring (which is what you play to optimize) can be a bit to wrap your head around. It’s been a while so I might be misremembering, do you think it would be easy enough to explain quickly?

2·6 months agoNinjan looks really neat! After reading through replies I’m starting to consider having maybe a few games I rotate out, some more strategic and others simpler more social games. Ninjan is definitely getting added to that list.

2·6 months agoOh this is cool! I’ve been familiar with Oink! games as tiny portable packages but Pack O Game has managed to escape me until now, thanks for the recommendation!

2·6 months agoThis actually looks incredible I’m not sure how I’ve skipped out on this game for so long. It seems perfect for what I’m going for. Thank you!
This looks beautiful and seeing as there are additional films this is looking like it’s meant for me LOL
This sounds like exactly what I’m looking for! Beautiful illustration from what I’ve seen.
“The System” looks really interesting I’ll definitely be checking that out. Thank you!
This looks incredible thank you.

politics @lemmy.world•You can stop asking where the mass opposition is. It's everywhere.English
28·10 months agoThere have been many protests even before the stock market issues. Even before Trump was elected there were protests across the nation at college campuses representing Palestinians. Even my very politically inactive university had enough students feel strongly enough to protest. Just because you’re not seeing them, or looking for them, doesn’t mean protests weren’t happening.

2·11 months agoAhhh I see this is a distinction I wasn’t aware of. I just remembered reading one of the publications saying he was a citizen, but it seems you’re correct.

112·11 months agoIn addition to ignorance, Khalil had legal citizenship which makes him a US citizen ☠️. So much for “we love immigrants as long as they’re legal”!

4·11 months agoThis article doesn’t even mention his name. He was a leader on Columbia’s campus for pro-Palestine protests but all accounts show that he didn’t partake in or encourage any vandalism or barricading of buildings. Even your explicitly biased news source does not list enough evidence to convict this man of any crime worthy of revoking citizenship or trampling his free speech.
I think it’s a valid criticism that should be welcomed. You could make this argument for any company when they make a bad decision.
“Oh well you trusted this company blindly so why are you upset and criticizing this design choice you don’t agree with.”
I also am not convinced a criticism is less meaningful if it’s the minority opinion. Many such cases in the world where the minority opinion is proven to be better for the majority.

Not exactly, but it sounds interesting nonetheless and I’ll check it out!

It is true! Someone much more studied on this than me could provide a better explanation, but instead of “size” it’s called cardinality. From what I understand your example of even integers versus all integers would still be the same size, since they can both be mapped to the natural numbers and are therefore countable, but something like real numbers would have a higher cardinality than integers, as real numbers are uncountable and infinite. I think you can have different cardinalities within uncountable infinities too, but that’s where my knowledge stops.
