Un Dorian Gray sin pasado, ni patria ni bandera.
I’m just a guy in the #pnw who likes going on adventures, and playing games with friends.
Three things I love: the Oxford Comma, irony, and missed opportunities.

I think that greatly depends on to whom you are speaking.

Some I’ve collected over the years.
“Would you think less of me if ____.” “I could never think less of you.”
Britta says “nobody respects me any less as a political activist, right?”
Long pause…
Jeff: “the level to which we respect you as a political activist has definitely not changed”
“Don’t underestimate me.” “I couldn’t possibly.”

After BLM protests, city voted to defund PPB. They said fine, we’re not going to donour jobs then. The city responded by increasing their salaries higher than before. They still don’t do their jobs, because why would they?
I love all the breads, and that sounds yummy right now, but light with caraway is my favorite—almost certainly because it was the first I was exposed to. It won’t appeal to probably anyone, but as a kid my favorite sandwich was seeded rye, raspberry preserves, and chunky peanut butter.

Tried to schedule a covid vaccine at Costco, but they have a note saying a Rx is required in the following states. Oregon was listed, but WA and CA weren’t. So I’m going to try my luck at one across the border in WA.

Yeah, ever since switching to Bluefin, it’s been a dream. I don’t have to fight the laptop or myself when I do something stupid.

And then our states can finally stop paying for their states to drag us back to the dark ages.

What’s yours look like?

This is what I’ve been trying to figure out, so I’m glad you did it. I have a Synology too and I’ve outgrown it, but building my own server scratch is daunting so I just wanted to hook a DAS up to a mini PC and call it good. But there were a lot of people online saying it was a bad idea.

If meshtastic is what you were referring to, check out meshcore. Same hardware, different firmware. Meshtastic has a problem the more nodes you add, so the more people using it, the worse it becomes.
Meshcore is newer, and doesn’t have as many features per se, but it’s much more reliable. Right now, the entire Seattle metro area into Vancouver, BC is on it and it’s running extremely well.

That’s the bar we’re at?

Yup. Originally, Irish and Italian immigrants weren’t white. Syrians and Arabs have always been white though, because as they argued in court, if they weren’t white, neither was Jesus. So that case ended quickly.
Same! I was one of the early migrants just before the mass migration, having seen the writing on the wall and having already joined Mastodon. It was a great time initially, a bit of “you’re new? okay, I’ve figured a few things out, try this”. We caught Ernest by surprise because he was only making a proof of concept to offer an alternative to Lemmy. And then we showed up in droves. But he did his best, and while it was bumpy, it was still an overall great experience, much like the early days of Reddit, pre-Digg.
I still like the kbin-style instances over Lemmy, but yeah, it’s not quite the same any more. That said, still preferable to Reddit these days.
Thank you, Ernest. Hope you’re recovering wherever you are.
Second for Bazzite. Have it on my steamdeck.

Yes, because if we don’t let them do whatever they want in the name of their religion, it’s oppression. Literally the same as throwing them to the lions.

Owning people as chattel: stop focusing on the negativity! Wearing masks and not dying from preventable diseases: literal slavery.

We need to figure out the mechanism for not sending taxes to the federal government to then give to the regressive states holding us back. Let them live in their Libertarian dystopia.
Do that. Install Bazzite, they go out of their way to make everything just work so you don’t have to. And since you’re nervous about messing something up, Bazzite has the extra benefit of being an immutable distro, which means you can’t actually change any of the important files that keep your computer running (not easily). So you can’t mess up your OS, updates happen in the background and only apply when you restart, and rolling back to the previous update is easy should you need to.
One thing to decode though is your desktop environment of KDE or GNOME. KDE is a bit more like windows in layout, GNOME is more like a Mac layout. Purely personal preference.
Bonus, if you end up loving Bazzite, you can install it on your steamdeck, which is what I did.
