I’ve definitely been expected to get coffee, been told not to speak to male coworkers unless absolutely necessary, been told that I dressed too well and it was tempting male coworkers to sin, been told there was something mentally wrong with me because I didn’t “take care of myself” by wearing more makeup, been blamed for work conflicts I wasn’t involved in because I should’ve been the peacemaker. All in the last 10 years. But, yeah, I’m glad I can use birth control legally.

That’s true of most of them, probably. I think Palemoon is independent enough to survive on its own. Some of the others might be able to move into that role, if they had to. If the entire line of browsers died out, I guess I’d go to something webkit-based.

In some ways I2p is more secure, but it has its own pros and cons. It’s primarily used with services & sites within its own network, similar to onion sites, and used that way it’s said to be faster than Tor. It can be used for torrenting with a client that supports it, like qBittorrent or BiglyBT, without harming the network. There are outproxies you can use if you want to anonymize access to normal websites, but there’s only a few of them, and it’s slow. You can have it and Tor running at the same time without them interfering with each other, though.

Book prices have gotten ridiculous. Independently published ebooks aren’t bad, but that fact that the cheapest physical books you can find new are around $10, and $20-40 is common, puts them way out of reach of what I would buy regularly.

I could probably find the rest of the series on Z-lib, if I wanted to, but reading them would feel like engaging with the author as a person more than I now want. There’s plenty of authors who don’t speak negatively of readers who get their books used. I’d rather give them my time and attention.

Feather is open source and has Tor built in.

I once visited the web site of an author whose series I was enjoying and was surprised by her angry insistence that selling used books is theft because the author doesn’t get a cut. Never bought the rest of the series. It just felt weird.
