Nutomic@lemmy.mlto PieFed Meta@piefed.social•Tired of your instance getting pounded by bots and scrapers? Solved.4·3 days agoThis was changed in Lemmy 0.19.11, now you can have private instance with federation enabled to prevent crawling.
Fully agree that theres too much politics. Like you say too often about attacking some kind of enemy rather trying to understand other perspectives. For better or for worse, those seem to be the types of people more likely to use a new platform like Lemmy. Hopefully in the future they will also get tired of this stuff.
Thank you, all donations help :)
I hope youre right :)
Oh no i’m so offended 😱😱😱
Seems like a lot of effort, and then people will still keep complaining and demand more.

Liberapay is preferable as it has low fees and is also open source.
I actually got in contact with them yesterday, will probably have a meeting soon to discuss how we can work together with them.
Sure just one line I have to parrot and you will be happy. But then it still wont be enough and you will ask something else, right? I dont have time for your little games, I have work to do.
Liberapay is the best option, because it doesnt take any fees beyond payment processing, and its also open source. Thanks for donating!
I see, or simpler yet a special badge which is shown next to donor’s username. Definitely worth considering. Thanks for the suggestion!
And would happily donate to them if they needed it.
So you are not donating anyway? It seems to me like there is a vocal minority of users who make any type of excuse for the fact that they are unwilling to donate. Instead of being honest about that, you demand from us to make more and more changes, which will piss off other users and will likely not lead to any actual increase in donations.
So you would be fine if lemmy.ml was run exactly like it is now, but without Dessalines or me taking direct actions as admins?
Nutomic@lemmy.mlto Fediverse@lemmy.world•What is the dead-simple(est) way to onboard compeltely new people to Lemmy/FeddyEnglish4·6 days agojoin-lemmy.org has such an instance picker.
Thanks for the analysis. In addition to the monthly donations there have also been many one-time donations. I agree that it makes sense to update the donation dialog and popup with adapted text from this post, will do that shortly.
Some user messaged me out of nowhere asking me to work for free to integrate some kind of browser plugin to track “transphobes” (so people like me, apparently). If theres one thing that pisses me off its people acting entitled and demanding I work for free for them. Plus it sounded like a violation of user privacy. So I quickly wrote a response without thinking much about it.
Thanks for your donations and your understanding. Its a bit annoying that people ascribe various beliefs to me personally based on nothing more than comments from random lemmy.ml users. But it seems there is nothing I can do to change that.
I am not a tankie and reject that label.
Ibis uses markdown, not wikitext because the former has better support in Rust. There are some tools for converting from wikitext to markdown for example this one. By the way ibis.wiki is specifically for articles related to open source projects, you can use open.ibis.wiki for other topics.
