I’ll just change it to ‘changes to drivers license rules for permanent residents’ or something
melbaboutown@aussie.zoneOPto Australia@aussie.zone•Changes to drivers license rules for permanent residentsEnglish5·2 months agoYeah, that makes sense.
I just wanted to be a bro and throw this info out there so people know.
It changed overnight and the penalties for driving without a valid license can be fines or jail.
melbaboutown@aussie.zoneOPto Australia@aussie.zone•Changes to drivers license rules for permanent residentsEnglish2·2 months agoA title suggestion refused to pop up so I tried to paraphrase my imperfect understanding of this.
“The EDR allowed international citizens permanently residing in Australia to transfer their overseas licence to an Aussie one without sitting further exams. However, this will end in most states and territories across Australia on Wednesday.”
I can change it but honestly the finer points of what this article is saying are confusing to me - someone born here who does not drive.
A law just changed overnight so I threw this article out there so any affected people can know.

I’d love to see what the courts have to say about everyone’s personal photos and art or writing being scraped for profit without permission or compensation
Edit: Ps. Meta did not allow Australian users to ‘opt out’. And the companies involved have
most likelyalmost inevitably stolen images of children.

It sucks that the onus is further being put on individuals. While companies and wealthy people that consume energy or pollute on a massive scale don’t seem to face the same restrictions
(As someone who already drinks non-dairy and can’t eat meat.)
melbaboutown@aussie.zoneto Australia@aussie.zone•Swapping out red meat and creamy pasta sauce could significantly cut household emissions, Australian research findsEnglish3·2 months agoAgreed, I’ve said this a lot. The builds are wasteful in that way

It’s not even dangerous to have that added vitamin B because it’s a water soluble vitamin and the risk of overdosing is negligible

I don’t want to be part of the mango madness and also recognise that we could be in a bad position to fight back
melbaboutown@aussie.zoneto Australia@aussie.zone•Australia’s science agency sent questions from Trump administration asking if it is taking ‘appropriate measures’ against gender ideologyEnglish21·3 months agoWhat the actual fuck is happening
So like universities and scientific organisations have to fall in line with whatever odd ideas this guy thinks up to go after, or they lose the funding for research?
I really don’t like this direction. This is an unreasonable amount of control and a dangerous precedence to set

melbaboutown@aussie.zoneto Australia@aussie.zone•TIL: Deer are popping off down hereEnglish121·6 months agoIn America there’s a few programs that donate hunted meat to the disadvantaged. Usually called Hunt for the Hungry or Hunters for the Hungry etc.
Seems Australia is thinking along those lines too https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2023/nov/12/deer-meat-for-homeless-shooters-fishers-and-farmers-party-mp-hunters-hungry
Not a good thing in Australia :/
It’s a shame that sun umbrellas and sun visors aren’t more normalised here like in Asia
