They have themselves convinced that they did it on their own. Dad was a lawyer, paid for his son to be a lawyer, hired his son as his law firm. And it happens all the time in every industry. I’m fine with families setting up their children in the family business, it has always been done. The issue I have is that when everyone else comes up with ways to reduce the discrepancy, those same people cry and call it unfair and do everything they can to hold others back. It’s really sickening and that type of culture is worse than ever now that a ghoul has been installed to the White House that espouses rhetoric that denigrates the poor.

Delta knows their audience. Many pilots lean Republican and see themselves as rugged individualists that have made their own path. Meanwhile, the only reason they’re flying in many cases are socially funded training programs. Many from the military.

Americans need to suffer more. Especially the working class. They can only blame immigrants for so long.

The MAGAts are denying this, too. They deny everything. Nothing will change their mind. Ever.

Well they do that because democratic socialism focuses on well-being of the populace rather than well being of the few but admittedly they are fairly toothless as their policies revolve around tax collection rather than the required restructuring of industry that would comprise a socialist system… a democratic socialist can only really affect policy through tax code.

I’m so tired of these takes. Trump won. I could care less if the next one is a slightly left of center corporate Democrat. The GOP has to be avoided at all costs.

I don’t think it’s the singular issue but there are many, many people, male and female, that will not even consider a female candidate for president. With the social regression of MAGA, my concern is that the Overton window is moving too far to the right. I will happily vote for a female. I worry the populace won’t. Hillary won the popular vote and lost in the electoral college thanks to swing districts going to Trump.

There’s always the option of antitrust as well. The government could, if it had a backbone, bust up corporate land aggregates. But very heartening to hear that take about New England, something I hadn’t considered. I know livestock are big out there so had assumed most land was either grazing or feed farming.

No matter what she said about Gaza, it was going to be divisive for the Dems. The only part of American politics that view Gaza as a genocide are leftists. And leftists alone can’t win a national election. We aren’t there yet. What was she supposed to say? And on the economy, yes, she should have talked more about how the economy was good. How they had solved Trump’s inflation. How their plans were bringing stability and growth to America. Because Trump had no plan. He had gibberish answers. Attack soundbites. Trump relied on his surrogates making his points for him. Still does.

I don’t like it that she brought Cheney in. But anyone that saw that and decided not to vote for her has ensured whatever comes to pass. Up to and including absolute fascism and federal control of daily life.

If the left really wants a shot at changing things, the presidential election isn’t where to do it. That would be the absolute last place for change. We need system reform to allow viable third party candidates. The two party system is the flaw. It is eroding our ability to vote for real candidates.

Sure. He means live fire, urban combat, and a descent into outright revolution. But they want to act like the frog isn’t in the pot already.

If you think that any kind of intellectual examination was part of people’s decision making process last election, you are sorely mistaken. It really surprises me that on Lemmy, people think that 90% of voters even think about these things. They don’t. And they won’t. Look at the polling leading up to 2024. Harris was ahead for quite a bit. As the day got closer and Trump started running tabloid ads about trans and immigrants, the polls shifted.

The shift in polling had nothing to do with these nuanced takes about centrists and war hawks and corporate Democrats. Nothing. The masses voted based on last minute bigoted propaganda and claimed it was about the economy.

Your reasoning may apply in small, isolated circles. We are talking about the masses and no, I don’t buy it. I’ve talked to too many people.

Please be done. If you wanted to be a leader, now is the time. Not three years from now.

Americans romanticize the violence of the past. But they refuse to allow talk of violence as a path forward. Destruction of property was righteous when they threw tea in the harbor but it’s wrong to talk about it now.
