  • I don’t know what study you are referencing, but in ALL the behavior analytic literature on “self-control” that I know of, the experimenters provide the reinforcement as part of the study. Not only that, but there are usually repeated trials with the same individual to establish a baseline and some sort of experimental treatment to see if self-control-related behaviors can be shaped. If the research is done with individuals who are children or have Developmental Disabilities, they usually ask that whatever the reinforcers are be restricted for some amount of time prior to experimental sessions to minimize outside influence on the study. So, families are usually asked not to give that specific candy, or whatever, to the individual during the trial, but there will be a handful of opportunities to receive some.

  • While I don’t disagree with most of what you said, rocks don’t need to be sharp for bludgeoning. Heavy rocks for bludgeoning, sharp rocks for slicing/stabbing.

I have wondered about setting up/participating in an underground railroad. I have friends who are people of color and may be targeted for one of those illegal “deportations.” I have started thinking about how that system would work and what we’d need to do/have. In the meantime, I would advise them to have a go-bag ready.

Have you seen Noem’s commercial about “illegals” registering and leaving? It scares me.

  • The wolves were supposed to be the bouncers at the hip new club “Yellow Stone” and they were shirking their duties and started working at a different club called “The Underworld.” Because they weren’t there to stop those horny bastards, they fucked all those trees. It’s called wood for a reason, amirite? /s

It’s not really about the proportion. The rest you have right. Things (good or bad) may happen as a result of your behavior (good or bad). Those things are natural consequences. We talk about it a lot in the context of punishing behavior, but natural consequences can also reinforce behavior. Of course, if we design those consequences, they’re no longer natural.
