StingJay@lemmy.mlto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Reddit Refugees on Lemmy, how are you guys liking lemmy so far?English7·2 years agoYeah, I’m big into the NFL and fantasy football subreddits, so I’m glad it’s the off season, but once the season starts I’m going to really miss those threads.
StingJay@lemmy.mlto Technology@lemmy.world•Reddit's API protest just got even more NSFWEnglish19·2 years agoI’m not sure they can. What can they do? I doubt they’ll replace moderators with paid Reddit workers. The alternative is to replace them with other power hungry moderators who will bend a knee to the Reddit admins. That might work on some major subreddits but the PR of that might cause more damage.
I think the admins hoped it would have blown over by now. If it’s still going on by September I bet they’ll need to do something.
I used to have Spotify and loved it, but I switched to YouTube Music after it came out because of the free YouTube Premium add on. I didn’t feel the drop off in quality between the two and no ads on YouTube with the ability to turn my phone off if I want to keep listening to whatever I was watching is amazing. There’s a lot of good DJ and remix content on YouTube.
I’m so spoiled by the no ads that I don’t think I could go back.
I agree. Lemmy takes a bit to get used to. I think if content starts to get worse on Reddit, more people will get bored and switch. Hopefully by then those early kinks in lemmy will have been cleared out.

After June 30th, RIF won’t be working and I don’t plan on installing the official app so I’m trying to get adjusted to Lemmy before then.
I agree. There’s definitely work to be done but considering the massive influx I think it’s doing pretty decently okay

StingJay@lemmy.mlto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What stupid conspiracy theories do you think will come out of the missing submarine?English3·2 years agoGotta cash in on that life insurance check while you’re still alive!

StingJay@lemmy.mlto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Am I the only one who used the native Reddit app?English1·2 years agoThat’s the thing though. The current mods are volunteers. Is Reddit going to replace them with paid mods or are they going to hope other volunteers step up? It could turn into a shit show if subs go unmodded or are poorly moderated.
Or Reddit is going to have to spend money paying for moderators, which is great but another consequence of their decision.
StingJay@lemmy.mlto Technology@beehaw.org•Megathread for Reddit Blackouts and News - Day 2English21·2 years agoYou’re right Lemmy is going to take a bit to get used to, but the kicker for me (and maybe a lot of people) is going to be at the end of the month when the 3rd party apps shut down. I’m either going to have to get used to something new either way, whether it be Lemmy or the official Reddit app and my understanding is that the official app is littered with ads and promotions that no one cares about so I probably won’t even bother.

There are enough reposts to keep them busy for a while I think. I swear the same post would get reposted a few weeks after the original and get just as many or more upvotes than the first time. And the top comments were usually the same or similar.
