Redex@lemmy.worldto World News@quokk.au•Hasan Piker detained at the border and questioned for hours over politics341·2 days agoI find it crazy to hear this coming from the US. It was all over the news when Serbia detained a Croatian singer trying to cross the border or trying to deport people with Croatian citizenship, crazy to see the same thing happening in the US.
I’m not saying this is something that should be used to crank out slop to sell as posters or paintings or idk. I’m saying it can help e.g. indie devs, people making random powerpoints, making a customised meme, stuff where the art isn’t the main point but is sometimes still necessary.
I don’t feel like that’s actually an argument against it. Why would everyone need to learn to draw? Why if I need some random background asset or prop should I spend months or years learning to do something I don’t enjoy? The alternative is to pay an artist, but in many cases it literally doesn’t make sense to waste that kind of money on a trivial thing. It can have its uses.
Look at these cute bastards, how can you not love them.
Calling GrapheneOS a “basic thing” when 99% of people will never touch their OS is a bit of a stretch.

Israel has been conducting subversive actions against Hamas and the Houthis for a long time and something like that pager attack was likely being planned far ahead.
Why did I not know this, I’ve been suffering for so long. Makes it 50 times better. If only the swipe worked better now.
I like the FUTO keyboard, but it’s just so annoying that it doesn’t support multi-lingual typing and the swipe just isn’t as good as Gboard.

If it was propely implemented and didn’t get hacked it would be fine. Tho I guess implementation wise if it really sends all the data to a corporate instead of government cloud that’s a problem as well.

It looks pretty promising. Had to modify it a bit to fit my S21 with a case, but it fits like a glove. Just have to print the last few components.

Just because a majority of people want something doesn’t make it right. In theory I like the idea od banning the AFD, but I’m scared of the potential backlash it could cause and what the consequences could be. In the modern day when people are so segregated in their own bubbles, I feel like this could make them more extremist (“Look, I was right, they’re just trying to silence the truth")

Redex@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Could wastewater plants simply heat up water past 500C to decompose all chemicals and output clean water?1·11 days agoOk yeah the second part makes sense, but for the first part I was calculating it based on hand washing, dishwashers would be way less since you have to split the usage per person in the household, which holds for hand washing as well. Idk for other people but when I’m alone I use the dishwasher probably every 3-4th day and for handwashing I’d say 20L is realistic, double it maybe but still isn’t that much.

The main thing is it anonymises your searches, so you do get some additional privacy. Additionally, the hope is that one day they build their own index. They just recently announced that they’re gonna start one with Qwant.
Redex@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Google’s dominance on search is declining – for the first time ever!English1·12 days agoLate to reply but: from what I heard, Kagi is really good at search (at least when it comes to filters and the such, not sure about base results), but it’s paid so that’s a disadvantage (and also a plus since you don’t get ads nor is your data being sold off), and it’s US based. DuckDuckGo also uses Bing but I guess they have more sources than just them. In my experience it’s about the same, maybe a bit better on DDG, both have shebangs (! for DDG, # for Ecosia) which I find extremely useful.
Redex@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•The first driverless semis have started running regular longhaul routes | CNN BusinessEnglish72·12 days agoI disagree. There are many situations where a truck is better suited for transport than a train. The US already has a pretty large freight train network. I agree that there definitely should be more investment in rail as well, but there’s no reason for both not to exist at the same time.
Same, but I actually kinda like it. Looking at the old one it does kinda look dated to me. Design trends change every so often, maybe it’s time to go back to more fancy things.
