The Shawshank Redemption - a good book (Stephen King) made into a richer and more complete movie. In my opinion, so few of King’s stories were better on the screen than the original writing.

I may be wrong here, but it sounds like it’s using the wire in the headphones as an antenna. Hence the specific need and the general absence on modern phones as they don’t have a means of reliably receiving that form of signal.

You also have to factor in the cost of your time. If it takes longer with one or the other that needs consideration too.
