Dev work in the uBlue family (and yes I use bazzite for dev) leans heavily on distrobox (think development containers). Took a bit to adapt but now I think it’s the ducks nuts. Because you decouple the dev environment from the main, immutable OS you get a lot of wins, especially if you work with a lot of different projects as you can setup distroboxes specifically for each. AI code that only works with specific drivers / libraries / python with instructions only for Ubuntu or Arch, no worries, make up a distrobox, when you’re finished archive it and spin it up later if needed. If you’re only working one project on say LTS or something it’s going to be much less of a win, but for the flexible developer it’s a godsend.

As to doom emacs or whatever, I have a post install script for distroboxes that sets up my preferred environment for the big 3 (Fedora, Arch, Ubuntu), it’s not hard. Very much a kill your darlings philosophy.

ETA Because of this workflow it really doesn’t matter what the host OS is, so it may as well be something I can game on, and I’m fond of the Fedora relative stability with sharp, but not bleeding edge.

Eh, Syncthing-Fork is basically feature complete, it’s not even a significant exploit threat (on gOS and constrained to local network and storage spaces in my case, but probably in general). I just pinned it at v2.0.11.2 in F-Droid and will wait for things to shake out. If things go badly there’ll be a Syncthing-Fork-Fork, it’s too critical to too many peoples workflows.

Sidepanels as per u/mirasu, but with magnets for easy access. Pretty sure those corner braces are zinc plated steel so it should be a breeze (especially if you use mesh). You could even cut it down shorter and put on a top (can always use linear joiners later if you need more in the future, love extrusion, bloody industrial meccano! ) and make it really slick.

That said, it’s great as is.

As I understand it, in a separate incident, the FBI implied that they had ‘compromised’ a signal network (99% certain they compromised an endpoint, person or phone, but wanted to FUD signal coz they hate it). gOS and signal being solid privacy respecting secure software is the connection.

So I’m guessing that means they’ve helped themselves to your entire email history already, and this is just going forward, and until they alter the terms again, but they wanted some legal liability protection. Not that I wasn’t expecting them to have already done it, but yuk.

Eh, selfhosting email seems to be a world of pain.

This has finally pissed me off enough to do the get myself a domain and forward from there to a paid provider thing. Keep your email address and switch out providers at will, not going to the pain of changing out all those emails only to lock myself into another provider… or even your selfhosted one.

Doesn’t seem to hard, but tips from those who have done this welcomed. Also any non slop, non partisan articles on the setup would be great.

I love the idea of being able to make email addresses on the fly and then see who’s giving my address to spammers and just turn off the tap, which I’ve heard of but I’m worried that’s just going to get me spammed randomly.

Er, current (I use podman autoupdate). Often it’s the second time you try that it works (takes a while to work and times out), can also be a hard block on your vpn egress IP, then change it, test to see if you can reach it in your browser. Also you arr may have decided it’s not working and turn it off, check system errors. Currently my log has detected, challenge solved, response in 18 - 40 s, so it’s definitely slow at the moment.

1337x is pretty damn good, look into flaresolverr for the Cloudflare, it’s a bit hit or miss (cat and mouse game there) but useful. Also Limetorrents, EZTV and good old piratebay are worth it IMO.

FWIW I switched VPN egress to Singapore (I have two egress points up permanently and switch with foxyproxy) and was up again immediately.
