31·1 year agoIf that had happened, I’d bet money they would have arrested clinic staff for assaulting an officer or some other bullshit charge. They already do this when police shoot innocent bystanders.

41·1 year agothe fact that this is the worst-merchandised franchise in the world is incredibly annoying
I can’t agree with this more. It’s insane the disparity between ST merch and Star Wars merch. It’s like Trek stuff is always the “Wish version” of what the people behind Star Wars are putting out. Lego is a good example, they’ve put out hundreds of Star Wars sets over decades while Star Trek is relegated to the shitty knockoff Lego-clone companies who think they can charge as much as Lego for what they offer.

Technology@lemmy.ml•There is no Black Friday - Brett Scott on cultural malwareEnglish
6·1 year agoLol I’d hardly call it a Pavlovian response. It’s more that it’s a well known date for stores to have sales on their merchandise, which is why people shop around on those days. I don’t see what’s so offensive about saving some money on a purchase you were going to make anyway, but I think there is some projection happening here.

Technology@lemmy.ml•There is no Black Friday - Brett Scott on cultural malwareEnglish
61·1 year agoThe point is to increase sales. Browsing a website or walking through a store and not buying anything doesn’t generate any revenue for a business. Nothing is being consumed, nor is anyone being forced to buy things against their will as the term “ordered” would suggest.
Do you get this bent out of shape when a store has a sale or promotion at any other point in the year?

Technology@lemmy.ml•There is no Black Friday - Brett Scott on cultural malwareEnglish
81·1 year agoI’d hardly call them “orders.” I will shop for deals on both days, but that doesn’t mean I’m actually going to buy anything, especially with all the price tracking extensions available and the severe lack of actual discounts over the last few years. I will only buy things that are actually on sale and things that I actually want/need prior to me seeing them on discount.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How come LED Light Bulbs only last for about 2-3 Years?English
21·1 year agoI just buy a cheap jumbo pack from Amazon. They’re like 15 bucks and last for years which is good enough for me.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How come LED Light Bulbs only last for about 2-3 Years?English
721·1 year agoGenerally because you’re buying cheaper ones that aren’t built as well. Heat destroys LEDs and the cheap bulbs generally use fewer individual LEDs running at higher power to produce a given output in lumens. More expensive bulbs use more LEDs at lower power to achieve the same light output so that they’re not constantly being overdriven and last much longer.

Games@lemmy.world•Sony announces the PS5 Pro with a larger GPU, advanced ray tracing, and AI upscalingEnglish
3·1 year agoI dunno I haven’t really been excited for any of the games released over the last couple years. It seems like nothing but legacy games like COD/Battlefield/Destiny and a few gems like Elden Ring. Most of these big studios seem to be laying off employees or shutting down instead of releasing new games. Part of this is just me being burnt out on gaming, but with so many studios struggling, it seems like it’s more than just me feeling like this.

Games@lemmy.world•Sony announces the PS5 Pro with a larger GPU, advanced ray tracing, and AI upscalingEnglish
7·1 year agoOne major improvement with the PS5 is the instant loading times. I don’t think this thing will be any faster in that regard but it’s a major improvement over the PS4. The other improvement over my original PS4 is that it doesn’t sound like a jet engine after 20 minutes of running.
Ray tracing is cool but what console games are even using it at this point? It’s like them advertising “8K capable” as if anyone gives a shit about that during a time that 4k is just barely becoming the standard for most.
