Two parent reproduction leads to better adaptability. Asexual reproduction leads to the offspring being genetic copies of the parents, which is great if the parent fits well to the environment it is in, but any change to that environment could be catastrophic and lead to the species dying out. With two genetic sources, it allows for greater deviation in the species. So if there is a change in the environment, some will die, but there is a higher likelihood of some individuals being able to adapt better and survive in the changing environment.

  • But these are the people trying to take away the right to be gay. You don’t get to hide in the closet, have your secret gay hookups, and then turn around and say gay people don’t deserve the right to marry and trans people don’t deserve basic human decency and respect. No one is forcing them to be a Republican but themselves. Hell, you still be a Republican and be gay, the log cabin Republicans are a thing. But they alone are not the ones causing this spike in Grindr usage.

The idea that we should just let this kind of shit slide where it’s only ok if you do it in secret is beyond idiotic. It’s only bad if you are open about your homosexuality apparently.

They believe that when a Mormon man dies, he gets his own planet to be the god of with his potentially many wives. And that God is one of many in a long line of gods, and there was a beginning to this chain of gods. But also they still claim to be monotheistic. The first “star” was named Kolob, they have a hymn about it. They have their own idea of the after life, and before life, that are very distinct from mainstream Christianity. Mormons may claim to care about the old and new testament, and they do to an extent, but they care a lot more about the book of Mormon. They also have secret hand shakes, have to wear special underwear at all times*, and can get baptized for people that are already dead. Like, sure, they claim they are just Christianity with a DLC extension, but so much of their belief comes from the book of Mormon, and they put so little focus on the old and new testament that I think it is safe to classify it as its own separate religion.

You really should look more into Mormonism. Calling Mormonism Christianity is like calling Islam Christian. Both believe the old and new testament the same as Christians, but both also have their own book they view as an extension and put a lot more focus on that book. Muslims have the Quran, mormons have the book of Mormon. And a lot of Mormon beliefs are heretical to most, if not all, denominations of Christianity.

  • As a trans person, I can’t go to the bathroom aligning with my gender in some states, and going to the other bathroom can get my assaulted or worse. Trump made getting a passport with my correct gender marker tricky, if not impossible. Trans minors can’t receive any healthcare related to being trans. They have already been talking about repealing the right for same sex marriage. just the other day some right wing lunatic was talking about detaining all trans people and “studying” us, but you that just means torture and killing us. (That last one was some nobody, but it still somehow made news and was posted on Lemmy.)

It’s happening right in front of you, open you eyes.

I don’t need to talk with my friends and family about their political beliefs, we do that regularly. I know where my friends and family stand. Some of them are not as far left as I am, but everyone I regularly choose to spend time with hates what’s happening now.
