  • Exactly. In dystopian fiction (Robocop: Prime Directives for example) corporations absolutely use the threat of removing all benefits and pensions to force their underlings to be compliant, as there is absolutely no social safety net.

Edit: In the Roman Empire the praetorian guard was responsible behind a fuckload of assassinations. If a Roman emperor didn’t keep them happy they would remove him.

And for all the right wing shit about thr glory of the Roman Empire I need to mention thay around 60+% of Roman emperors died a violent death. It was an incredibly murderous society.

When I was a kid I didn’t think the chair trick worked on doors until I realized that you need to place the chair in a way that jams the handle from being able to rotate. It works only on doors (I think) that rotate both sides when you turn on.

It didn’t change my life much to learn it other than give me some small satisfaction from knowing it wasn’t some Hollywood myth.

  • I actually watched the Godfather and Citizen Kane. They were exceptionally good films. Citizen Kane in particular was genuinely fascinating.

They aren’t boring. While I am going to be honest and say that Citizen Kane isn’t something I would put on regularly (even when it comes to movies from the period) anyone telling they are dumb is dumb themselves.
