Are you a member of Newcastle City Library? You can get free access to many newspapers (including daily Newcastle Herald), periodicals and magazines online using your library membership card number.
Get in and check it out. Free stuff is good stuff.

Handy given the Herald is pretty much the only local print option and is behind a paywall.
Newcastle library has lots of good electronic resources. I heavily use CloudLibrary to access audiobooks, and Libby for magazines.
