The spot Splett is referring to is a large retail space on 18th Street, one of the major thoroughfares in the southwestern Manitoba city.

It’s been empty since 2017, when grocery chain Sobeys moved out and into a new location within sight — across the street.

Sobeys rents the empty space from Winnipeg-based Shindico and has signed a lease until 2028, which prevents any other food retailer from setting up shop until then.
