I feel like people should make more left-wing christianity propaganda.

Like maybe a shirt with that quote about “a camel being able to pass through a needle before a rich guy goes to heaven.” Then like a picture of a camel looking at a needle and then underneath some rich bro in a fancy car burning in hell. I’m talking shitty boomer/christian/“AI” cartoon style.

There is hella material in the gospels for this kind of propaganda. The sermon on the mount could make a whole series. Sadly I never see it.

As an atheist I’m considering it. Jesus doesn’t need to be real to have a thing or two to say about the practice of religion, morals, or even ethics. There’s a lot of bad takes in the bible, but some good parables too. Also, there’s a fair amount in the new testament that has nothing to do with god for that matter. If it meets people where their heads are, speaking their language is worth considering.

I remember a meme I saw once that said something like

      Jesus was an anarchist

      His followers are statist bootlickers

I may not be rembering correctly but it was funny

Even better: he’s anti-colonialism too. Israel in his time was an occupied territory, and was executed by that invading force: The Romans. I have a hard time imagining anyone mid-crucifixion thinking “eh, these guys ain’t so bad.”

The original Greek says “camel” (in Greek).

There’s no other translation for that word, but there apparently is a theory that maybe the original Greek was wrong and they meant to say “rope” which is spelled very similarly to “camel” in ancient Greek: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eye_of_a_needle#Christianity

That would be a very convenient theory if you were a rich man who wanted to hoard your wealth, but otherwise I don’t see any reason to assume the original Greek word was wrong.
