I get the impression that the panels are drawn in such a way as they can be reused. The first two panels are exactly the same the last panel Garfield hasn’t changed the only difference is the mouse’s face. This entire comic could be drawn with one page and one updated mouse face.
The newer comics are drawn on a computer and are often literally copy/pasted. Sometimes all 3 panels are identical other than the speech bubbles.
That makes it more lazy than the lazy joke
