Been a little while since the last Skeletonwitch post. If you are unfamiliar with this band, it is an awesome blend of blackened thrash and elements of death metal, with heaps of melodic and atmospheric elements mixed in for good measure. It manages, I think, to appease all audiences of the genres it combines, and then some. It has fast, thrashing riffs, atmospheric BM passages and (not so much visible on this track) powerful, heavy DM sections. All of this and yet it sounds so elegant and beautiful. Sadly no longer part of the band, is the vocalist heard on this track: Chance. He switches between snarling BM vocals and death growls effortlessly.
Love these guys. I’ve heard that some people disliked their change in style or whatever but I thought their last album was their best. One of my most listened albums of all time and one of those that doesn’t have a skippable song, imo.
I’m one of those people I’m afraid :P. Nothing wrong with their new style, but I preferred the old vocalist, and I find it a tad too melodic for my taste. It seems to lose some of the bite the band displayed previously. I guess my favourite album would have to be Beyond the Permafrost.
Ah, fair enough xD
I don’t hate their newer stuff but it’s not what I consider Skeletonwitch. Fen of Shadows is actually a banger track, but every track on Serpents Unleashed and Forever Abomination are bangers.
Definitely agree.
