Error aside, that’s not how you write about stuff like this with no witnesses. You say he was found guilty of the crime, not that he did it for sure.
Except he was tried and convicted. According to our laws that means that he did it. This is the correct way to write about it, whether it is accurate or not.

Usually people don’t tell you you’re a dumbass for executing them if they actually committed a crime…meaning whoever actually did it is still out there.
