Screenshot of the Shametendo website: Supporting Companies with Better Practices. By supporting companies with better ethical practices, consumers can encourage positive change in the industry. Companies with Consumer-Friendly Policies: • Valve (Steam) - Generous refund policies, support for modding, and platform openness. • Xbox (Microsoft) - Game Pass (the rest is cut off)

yea okay. the genocidal tech company that buys every studio it can to create a monopoly on gaming is a more ethical alternative to nintendo. okay.

i think a section with indie games similar to nintendo’s games would’ve been cool, yknow stuff like bug fables, tunic or mindwave, instead of “If you don’t like Nintendo you can buy an Xbox! 😃”

It also lists PSN as a better subscription alternative. You know, from the company that bought Crunchyroll and decided to delete people’s anime purchases, that also deleted purchased games from people’s accounts in 2024 due to a bug, that had two major database breaches…

The site does have a section that mentions alternative games to Nintendo’s, like super tux world and super tux kart, as well as some fan games like Another Metroid 2 Remake

game pass is not consumer-friendly, when it bundle a bunch of thing and force us to buy them all. Especially, when game pass and battle pass become more similar to each other

Before clicking I already assumed microsoft and sony were going to be named as options, who are arguably worse companies. While Nintendo is doing shitty stuff, I don’t see the equal uproar against the other companies. My only assumption is Nintendo’s strict stance against emulation is clashing with lemmy’s pirate culture.
