It seems to me that YT has been doing that for quite a while already.
“Point Peaks aims to benefit advertisers” Wouldn’t it be crazy if one day Google did something to benefit users?
Advertisers are the customers, of course they are going to try and help them. We are the product, our comfort is beyond irrelevant to them.
This sounds like an upgrade from them showing me ads before ‘peak’ moments

When i started seeing these waveforms on the playback controls, i wondered how they could be profitable. Now I know.
