There’s one old game that works better by chosing “Scaled by the system”; however this make other x11 apps look slightly blurry. Is it possible to either choose “Apply scaling themselves” and exclude one app from it, or exclude every other app from “scaled by the system”, so it only affect this one game?
No. Everything about X11 is inherently global, that’s one of the big reasons for why we’re trying to get rid of it.
You can use gamescope as a workaround for scaling some game differently.
Wouldn’t it be possible to have two Xwayland instances, one for this turned on and one for it off? I know nothing about it but it seems like that could work to me. Plasma assigns the application one or the other when the user clicks the desktop file.
A lot of things would be technically possible, but pulling that off in practice is quite challenging. Synchronizing the clipboard with one Xwayland instance is hard enough…
That’s not to say it will never be done, but it won’t happen anytime soon.
Yes.
This is most easily achieved by using gamescope as they suggest.
Right, but gamescope opens in a single new window. That’s different. I’m wondering if it’s possible to have the same compositor show windows from two Xwayland instances, because from what I’ve seen it has to be integrated into the compositor somehow, gamescope doesn’t.
Nope. I already created a feature request for this. Don’t have the energy to search for a link.
thanks, I would love to +1 on it if you find the link
