It was the opposite of a useful or helpful stance. For the countries that got the events, it was performative. For the countries that didn’t get them, it was contributing to the problem by telling people they aren’t welcome. Even doing nothing is better than that, which is why I’d rather play any other game.

You’re basically resorting to the perfect solution fallacy. The reality is that even my Naraka example shows it can be done better, though there are even better examples, like Apex Legends that didn’t mind greeting everyone with the trans flag at one point.
At the end of the day, even if the motives are not genuine, sending a strong and universal message has an impact, as does accurate representation. Many LGBTQ+ people will see it as validating, anybody on the fence will get closer to accepting it as normal, while those who hate will see that their views aren’t embraced. What certainly doesn’t help is showing people that there is a Pride event but not in their country, suggesting their existence is viewed as second-class.
I quit Overwatch after hundreds of hours due to Blizzard’s performative support of the LGBTQ+ community. Limiting the Pride events to countries where it sells while excluding others, some of which are in the EU and don’t even have any laws that would prohibit that, means Blizzard couldn’t care less about the most oppressed.
Funnily, NetEase is better on that front in that its rainbow-colored mountain background in Naraka coinciding with Pride was global. Hopefully Rivals follows suit.
Given its in-court defense of Google, Mozilla is clearly complicit and its products should be boycotted. It’s a shame it’s the only alternative to Chromium, but I’m perfectly fine with the US government cracking down on Google, no matter the consequences for Firefox. The monopoly must be disrupted for the benefit of every internet user.

Not only is it a waste of time, but it also adds to any dissatisfaction with the Democrats, which always works in favor of the Republicans in a two-party system like that of the US. The goal should be taking down Trump before coming for the other party.

Taking that out on game developers, let alone a competitor with more lax DRM practices, is also missing the forest for the trees.

It’s 30% until they’ve made $10M, which drops it to 25%, and to 20% after $50M. I’d call that scalability available only to the most successful few, not flexibility.

Games regularly get review bombed for something as trivial as having a non-white person for a protagonist.
Rose@lemmy.zipto Games@sh.itjust.works•Epic reduce their cut to 0% for the first $1 million in revenue for devs on the Epic Games StoreEnglish21·10 days agoYou do realize the market share of GOG is about 0.5%, right? That’s despite Projekt Red being a beloved developer, the great launcher features, the fairest DRM practices, many years in the business, and so on. It only proves the point that Steam is a monopoly that cannot be disrupted whether you do it nicely like GOG or aggressively like Epic.

The world hasn’t recognized the annexed parts of Moldova and Georgia as Russian either, but those countries have no control over them, whereas Russians freely enter the regions and do as they please.
Rose@lemmy.zipto Ukraine@sopuli.xyz•The tables have turned, and Putin’s Russia is now in dire trouble11·11 days agoI don’t see how Russia getting to keep the occupied territories is good news. The human losses are nothing to Putin. His reference point is the Soviet Union, and the greater the “heroic” sacrifice, the closer he gets to that. No economic hardship would take away from his personal wealth either. It’s a net win from the territorial gains, which will enable him to try again later, irrespective of whether that’s going to be Ukraine or a country next in line after regions of Moldova, Africa, Syria, Georgia, or Ukraine.
That or just ask Bambie Thug for advice.

Huh?
That’s kind of my point and my reaction to seeing Cyberpunk 2077 on the list. Similarly to what you said, in Altered Carbon, you’re just a stack that can be inserted into any body. I see no future that’s not post-gender. Facial fillers being so prevalent is already a hint of what’s to come, but when you have more serious augmentations, swap out body parts at will or mind upload, gender would be more like clothing or customizing a character’s appearance in a video game. That said, cyberpunk is not necessarily an accurate representation of the future, hence the open question.
Can cyberpunk be transphobic?
They won’t stop supporting 10 unless its use drops significantly. They’d not shoot themselves in the foot.
